Emilio Ambasz receives the ISA Medal from the Rector for his original and innovative models in the field of design and architecture and for the creation of the green city of the future.

ISA Medal for Science is the highest honour awarded by the Institute to distinguished research activities characterized by scientific excellence and international influence.

During the ceremony, Ambasz will hold the lectio magistralis "ARCHITECTURE  &  NATURE: Towards a Pact of Reconciliation".

Emilio Ambasz

Architect and industrial designer, he is Commendatore della Repubblica Italiana, Ordine della Stella d’Oro, Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, Honorary International Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Born in 1943 in Argentina, he studied at Princeton University; in seventies he served as Curator of Design at the Museum of Modern Art of New York, where he directed and installed numerous influential exhibits on architecture and industrial design.
He co-founded the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies of New York; he taught at Princeton University, Carnegie Institute of Technology of Pittsburgh and at the Hochschule für Gestaltung of Ulm. As a designer he has collaborated with famous Italian and international companies.

He received many prizes as the Compasso d'oro (1981), the American Institute of Architects/Business Week Architectural and the first prize for environmental architecture of the Japanese Institute of Architects. His most famous works: the government building at Fukuoka (1994), the Museum of American Folk Art at New York, the projects of the showroom Mercedes Benz, the Art Museum of Grand Rapids in Michigan, Lucille Halsell of San Antonio, Texas (1988); the Expo at Siviglia (1992); the eco-technologic park at Torino (2001); the new hospital at Mestre (2008); the Banca degli Occhi at Zelarino. In 2012 Madrid dedicated to Prof. Ambasz a major retrospective.

With the theme and the projects of green cities, prof. Ambasz has been forerunner of Renzo Piano, Jean Nouvel, Tadao Ando and many others.
