Research field

She divides her work time between research, teaching, scientific writing, editorial work, museum consultancy and exhibition design. Her research is focused mainly on representation, history and theory, conservation and the expanded field of architectural culture. Among her many activities, she is currently involved in a number of international scientific and research collaborations, with TUDelft, Cornell University, of McGill University Doha Museum Association and ICOM.


Currently, she is the program head of the Architectural Theory and Design Program in METU Department of Architecture and teaching courses on representation, architectural design and museology. She is the board member of DemHIST-ICOM, Graduate School of Applied and Natural Sciences and Turkish Accreditation of Architecture Schools, and acting as a designer and advisor to the public and private museums in Turkey and abroad.

After being trained as an architect at METU Department of Architecture and Bartlett School of Architecture, she received her PhD from the History, Theory, and Criticism Program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, (M.I.T 1994). For the last 20 years, she has been converting historical buildings, particularly historical houses into museums and curating national and international exhibitions. She is the founder of a non-profit organization: Exhibition Design Workshop that established and designed museums such as Sabancı Museum, Erimtan Archeology Museum, MKEK Technology museum, METU Science and Technology. Her achievements include a number of national and international awards and fellowships including AIA Architectural Award, AAUW Research Prize, Schlossman Prize in historical research, Sir John Soane Museum, the Canadian Center for Architecture (CCA) fellowships. The museological theme she had developed for the Turkish Pavilion at the World EXPO in Shanghai won The Silver Medal in 2010.
